Ernesto Nazareth (1863-1934) lived all his life in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. His musical idols were Chopin and Gottschalk.  Although Nazareth was not a musical scholar, he was a fine pianist and composed about 210 works for piano.  Most were dances, including many tangos, polkas and waltzes.  In addition to composing, Nazareth played at salon parties and accompanied silent films at the Odeon theatre.  His ability to combine the rhythms of his homeland with a fluid romantic pianistic style influenced later Brazilian nationalist composers Villa-Lobos, Guarnieri and others.
